Garage Door Opener DC Motors
Motors operating on direct current (DC) use less electricity and are easy to control speed. Speed control make easy start and stop possible, reducing noise and wear. The door begins opening or closing slowly, building speed until it reaches normal rates, slowing near the end of opening or closing. Some operators open at twice the normal speed, but close at the usual 7" per second for safety considerations.

Garage Door Reinforcement
Before installing a garage door opener many garage door manufacturers require you reinforce your garage door. Failure to do so will void the factory warranty.
Even if the manufacturer makes no such requirement, all lightweight garage doors need this procedure done.
Attach perforated angle iron across the top of the inside of the top door panel. It does not need to be the full width of the door. Three or Four feet will do.
Then attach 2 pieces vertically between your top brace and the hinge at the bottom of the top panel. These 2 pieces should form a U. Remember that the bracket the door operator arm attaches to must be installed near the top of this U, so space accordingly.
Most door manufacturers can supply you with a kit that includes a built in attachment.
Your Garage door opener owner's manual has illustrated instructions for door reinforcement.
If you do not have your manual, go to Garage Door Opener Owners Installation Manuals
to find yours. If your manual is not available, click on the link for any manual. In the Liftmaster owners manuals, illustrated instructions are on page 19.
